Sunday morning 48 anglers from 5 local Clubs gathered at the Oasis Café, Marine Drive for registration to compete for The Scarborough inter-angling-clubs Challenge Trophy, nee the Bell Trophy. Organised and run by South Cliff and Scarborough Rocks. Fishing was from 11.00 - 15.00hrs, weigh-in by 16.00hrs at Scarborough Rocks Social Club.
The winning team would be determined by the highest aggregate weight, with 8 being the fewest team members possible.
This year was special as it was the 100th time the event had been held. And to celebrate Pete Dunn had donated a special trophy “The Dunn Trophy”, this would be awarded to the captor of the single heaviest fish.
Conditions were far from favourable, SSWesterly winds gusting 40mph. Sea state 0-1 ft Northerly, plenty of colour. A cold start until the wind dropped and the sun came out. The only saving grace was the tide, LWater 12.55hrs, 1.2 metres enabling all to fish the tangle beds and gullies of their choice. Bites were few and far between with some reporting not a single bit all day.
At the scales 11 anglers weighed-in 12 fish - 22 lb 08 oz 12 drms [or 5772 drms] winners were Cloughton Rocks [9th time of asking] with an aggregate 1 lb 01 oz 01 drm. The HFish fell to David Gyte, South Cliff & Rocks 5 lb 08 oz 04 oz who received The Dunn Trophy. David also had the HBoFish.
