Christmas Match 2014 |
08.10hrs Sandsend very windy
Festive wins - Taylor and Harland
High water 20.54hrs, 4.95m, 1008mbar, 4°C, TR 2.0m
Members Christmas match, fishing from 14.00 - 19.00hrs, weigh-in and presentation, The Wilson Arms, Sneaton. Sponsored by NR Carpets and Rich Deadman. Many thanks.
Conditions were far, far from ideal, a screaming, strengthening NWesterly wind, forecast for 52mph gusts. Sea state thick with colour, growing, forecast to be 12ft by match end. At match start, wind against tide for the last hour of ebb. A slack tide, just 2.0 metres tidal range between High and LWater. Low water marks would not be accessible, not just because of the tide, but also the wind would severely hamper fishing.
Once the tide had turned, within an hour it was obvious the sea state was growing, ‘wind and tide’ now in unison. Tactics, small hooks in daylight in the hope of picking up a rockling or two for a weigh-in [achieved 15.30hrs], best chance of a codling would be in darkness.
Weigh-in Jason Ebison had set the scales up in the back of his van for shelter. Ten of 19 members achieved a weigh-in, 10 codlings, 8 rocklings and 1 billet - 35 lb 01 oz, Av 1 lb 14 oz.
Christmas match winner Rob ‘Tink’ Taylor [the only double-figure bag] 4 codlings - 12 lb 03½ oz his best codling 3 lb 15 was not enough for HFish. This fell to Brian Harland, a fine spragg of 7 lb 06 oz, Brian picked up the Michael Deadman Memorial Trophy. Both Rob & Brian collected their trophies and £50 each from Chairman William Atkinson & Rich Deadman respectively.
Members enjoyed a festive Sunday lunch at the Wilson Arms, from hosts Dawn & Dan before the presentations from Secretary Peter Horbury. Followed by a raffle, no one went home empty handed. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all
