08.35hrs Sandsend
The Wilson Arms, Sneaton
Merry Christmas Turnbull & Thompson
Denis Thompson 4 lb 03 oz
High water 16.42hrs, 5.3m, 1011mbar, 7°C, TR 3.59m
A welcome change in the weather for the 15 seniors, and 2 juniors fishing the 5hr members Christmas match, after which a Sunday lunch and presentation at The Wilson Arms, Sneaton. Winter solstice, least amount of daylight [direct opposite of June 21st, the longest day], from now evenings will get lighter.
ESEasterly winds 17mph, and 2-3 ft of easterly swell [depending on chosen mark] with colour. Match started at 14.00hrs giving 2½hrs of flood, and the same of ebb. There were a couple of short rain showers but nothing to dampen the festive spirit. There was however, for some, a distinct lack of codling bites, and one had to fish for what was in front for a weigh-in.
Weigh-in closed at 19.45hrs with 12 of the 17 rods having something to weigh-in. In total 18 rocklings, 12 codlings, 6 whitings, & 3 bleggs - 38 lb 04 oz, giving a match average of 1 lb.
The match has no overall sponsor, apart from match entries and very kindly Rich Deadman £50 for the captor of the HFish for the Michael Deadman Memorial Trophy. The captor of the HBoFish also receives £50 from match entries. Being ‘a day match’ HFish takes preference and if it is within the winning HBoFish then the Christmas match trophy goes to the 2nd HBoFish.
Man of the Match Davey Turnbull, Darlington, 3 codlings for 8 lb 15 oz, his best 3 lb 15½ oz. Treasurer Dave Perrett awarded Davey his £50 match winnings and the Christmas match trophy.
HFish fell to Denis Thompson, Lythe, 4 lb 03 oz, and he was presented the Michael Deadman Memorial Trophy, and £50 by Rich Deadman.
Thereafter members picked from the prize table, each receiving a lottery scratch card and a set of Raffle tickets [for the raffle held after the prize presentation] including those who did not catch [drawn from names in a hat], & then the raffle. No one went home empty handed - Merry Christmas.
Last but not least - many thanks to our weigh-masters - Jason Ebison & Bernard Vasey.
