Spillman, Whitby, wins Open
Andrew Spillman - 6 lb 03 oz
Low water 11.24hrs, 1.7m, 991mbar, 5°C, TR 3.6m
Sunday, Whitby Sea Anglers held their 46th annual Open match, and for the first time it was the captor of the Heaviest Single Fish that won the 1st Place prize of £750 sponsored by Wilf Nobles Plant Hire and Construction in conjunction with Mariner A.
Anglers woke up to heavy rainfall, which by match start 10.00hrs had started to ease and the day gradually brightened-up. The early SWesterly winds 14-30mph shifted in direction but not strength, throughout the day, finishing on a NWesterly by match end 16.00hrs.
Sea state, basically flat with some very localised SEasterly swell, thick with colour, which on the flood died off as the winds shifted. Fishing the last 1½hrs of ebb and 4½hrs of flood 89 seniors and 4 juniors had 6hrs fishing ahead of them to catch that ‘one’ fish!
The weigh-in, at Whitby Rifle Club, thanks to Jason Ebison, Bernard Vasey & Chairman William Atkinson oversaw 26 successful anglers weighing-in 50 assorted fish - 36 codlings, 8 bleggs, 4 whitings, 1 billet, & 1 wrasse for 94 lb 14 oz [Av 1 lb 14 oz].
Local angler Andrew Spillman, The Carrs, Sleights, won, with a codling of 6 lb 03 oz winning £750.
In the Superpool, sponsored by ticket sales, and split 2/3rd 1/3rd went to Mark Thomas - 8 lb 01½ oz (5) & Phil France - 7 lb 00½ oz (5) £296 / £148 respectfully.
Sadly, no lady nor junior angler weighed-in, and no flat fish were recorded.

Match Facts:
89 seniors & 4 junior(s) fished
26 anglers weighed-in
No lady, nor junior weighed-in, and no flat fish was recorded.
Before the presentation I asked who owned a white Vauxhall, XXXXXX as the land owner had complained it had been parked irresponsibly. Too close to a gate through which some large horses had struggled to gain access.
The owner owned up, and I sincerely hope the message has got through to all, to park responsibly, as we are incontact with local land owners.
