Heavy rain Monday 21st November 2016 washed all the special gravel used in Escape Lane on Blue Bank A169 on the approach to Sleights, Nr Whitby on Monday night.
The special gravel, about the size and shape of a garden pea is used in Escape Lanes or Arrester Beds to stop runaway vehicles on steep hills.
Speaking to the Highways I asked if the gravel would be gathered up and used again.
No, was the reply, it's contaminated. It's cheaper to buy in new, than riddle the rocks, stones and bricks out.
At Little Beck, Nr Blue Bank, the flood water was 6ft deep at the ford.
Photographs are available through Ross Parry Picture Desk.
