Just some phone images from this mornings walk with Aussie.
Bad parking - blocking a blind persons crossing. Lengths people go to to get a good nights sleep - a child's shoe secured to the railway crossing gate post. And the continued scourge of camper vans treating car parks like campsites. Vehicles not fitting into bays, and parked in bays reserved for boat owners - vehicle + trailer. More flash practice. Goth weekendWhitby Marina car park virtual blockade by armada of camper vans Morning 06.30 hrs walk with Aussie & I was amazed at the number of camper vans in Whitby marina car parks. Pity any day visitors trying to get a park as camper vans were everywhere, over sized vehicles taking up more than one space because they can not fit within the boundaries. Grey water spilling onto the tarmac from their sinks, just not right. Sleeping in vehicles in public car parks should be prohibited, and camper vans should be on camp sites! {It may be legal in Scotland to park & sleep anywhere.} Camp sites provide security, toilets, showers, chemical toilet disposal, grey water disposal, and fire points with a 6 metre boundary between each unit*, something you will not see in a public car park. *Camping & Caravan Rules, being members we know. So at 8am I took this picture and placed in on The New Whitby Facebook page. 197 comments later the comments were closed by Admin. Many argued it brings money into the town but camper van owners don't need a B&B, as they have a bed. Nor do they need a restaurant as they have cooking facilities. One person was removed/blocked by Admin for a private message sent to me. Another tried to get me & my post blocked/removed and failed. Made me think if all this social media activity has actually embarrassed the camper van owners themselves. Surely they must be embarrassed by their selfish attitude, hogging all these parking spaces, after all it is a car park (& not camp site). I have come to the conclusion that they have been before in their cars, not been able to park, but noted other camper vans, and thought to themselves "we'll do the same next year". And snowballed from there - now it is a problem which the authorities must now take action against. Below is Sunday mornings photograph taken at the same time, from the same point on the high level bridge. You will note not a lot of vans have moved. Locals will note the spaces reserved for launching boats, therefore available for parking a vehicle with its trailer attached are now taken by camper vans.
WSAA Treasure text me, "never seen so many camper vans" as he was trying to get a park to enable him to check on his moored boat. In my opinion this is bang out of order. Sleeping in camper vans in a public car park should be prohibited (there used to be signs up above the parking machines). Up at the car boot {Sun} we noticed the camp site next door had many pitches vacant. One thing has been noted by locals (both verbally & read on-line) - Goth weekend is no longer for Goths, more a freak show of inappropriate & indecent clothing/dress, gory make up, some not fit for a family visit. Apparently it is all going to happen again next weekend!! Peter Horbury - a personal opinion. PS I draw a comparison to waking up on holiday, opening the curtains and seeing every sun lounger with a towel on it. Whitby Abbey Halloween Illuminations 2017 Very lucky to be invited again to the preview evening of this years Abbey illuminations. Wednesday 25th - Tuesday 31st October Over 4,000 tickets already pre-booked!!! Popped into 'The Riverside Stadium' on our way back from Darlington hospital
Stuck in the 'office' all morning so took Aussie & myself off for some fresh air down Saltwick Bay. In amongst the old piers found this man made 'channel'. Always makes me cringe when I see fossil hunters right up against the bottom
of the cliffs, brought home by this recent fall of sandstone from the top. |
