The annual buffet supper and prize giving of Whitby Sea Anglers Association was held at the Flask Inn (Mr. CC Isle) on Friday, with Mr. Ron Wood, chairman presiding. Guests included Mr. JS Cartridge, JP a vice-president, and and Mrs. Cartridge.
Mr. Wood said it had been a very good year and he had been amazed at the quantity of fish caught a relatively small number of members fishing in competitions. He also spoke of the sportsmanship and comradeship which existed in the Association.
Secretary Mr. John Swales said the total weight of fish landed in competitions was 1,203 lb, and it was the first time in six years he had been in office that the figure had topped the 1,000 lb mark. It was 400 lb up on last year.
The prize list was:
1. Gordon Stonehouse 170 lb 12½ oz
2. William Atkinson 133 lb 01 oz
3. William Hodgson 132 lb 14 oz
4. Bernard Stebbing 132 lb 03 oz
5. Andy Marr 106 lb 13 oz

Mr. Swales told members that Gordon Stonehouse's catch of
170 lb 12 1/2 oz was a new record for the competitions.
Mrs Atkinson presented the awards and was given a box of chocolates by the wife of the secretary, Mrs. Gillian Swales. Thanks for their work were extended to Mr. Swales and Mr. David Johnson, treasurer, by the chairman.
There was dancing in the Stable bar for the remainder of the evening.
