Ship Inn Open
A very calm sea and clear water were the conditions as 127 anglers took part in the annual Ship Inn Open Angling Competitions thanks to the main sponsors Peter and Barbara Tyler of the Ship Inn, Whitby. Fishing a low water flooding tide there were 22 anglers weighing in a total of 33 fish, on a dry day with no wind, fishing from 9qm to 5pm.
The first place prize of £300 and the Whitby Gazette Trophy were presented to Steve Coverdale, of Teesside, by landlady of the Ship Inn Barbara Tyler, with a single cod of 7 lb 11 oz.
Second place prize of £150 went to Ray Maddison, of Scarborough 6 lb 13 oz.
Third place prize of £75 went to Daniel Redling, of Saltburn 6 lb 09 oz.
The prize of £30 for the heaviest bag of codling went to Steve Coverdale who had four fish for 19 lb 03 oz. All anglers who weighed in received cash prizes for each fish.
The Junior winner was Michael Readman, of Scarborough, who won the first prize of a good quality headlamp and charger donated by Eric Wilson of Whitby Angling & Shooting Supplies with a 1 lb 01 oz billet.
Second place price of £25 to Whitby Sea Anglers Association member Richard Parkin (Jnr) with a 0 lb 11 oz rockling.
