The Annual Inter Club Tournament - The Bell Trophy
Members met on Marine Drive, Scarborough at the Oasis Café at 9am for registration. It was a warm bright sunny morning with a good northerly swell running 6-8 ft with plenty of colour. Gentle north westerly wind 9°C, 1041 mbar.
107 anglers from eight clubs and associations took part, by invitation, forming 11 teams of eight or more anglers. £3/angler entry fee with added team/club sweeps made for a competitive 4 hr fishing tournament. George Dunn, secretary of Scarborough Rock Anglers reminded everyone of the boundaries, Argyle Gulley to Coble Landing, Filey then everyone was free to travel to their chosen mark. Fishing times were 10.30 - 14.30 hrs.
34 anglers returned to the scales at Scarborough Rock Anglers Social Club with 58 fish for 92 lb 03 oz 10 drm.
The wining team was Filey C with 8 fish for 18 lb 06 oz 02 drm giving an average of 2 lb 10 oz 07 drm. Filey C’s team prize was £214. Heaviest Bag fell to Billy Colling 6 lb 12 oz 14 drm and he also won the Heaviest Fish 4 lb 13 oz 02 drm. The junior prize fell to Tom Donogue, 2 fish for 2 lb 06 oz 12 drm.
Whitby Sea Anglers Assoc. entered two teams of seven, Whitby A came 4th, 2 fish for 8 lb 06 oz 14 drm, Av. 1 lb 02 oz 02 drm. Whitby B came 5th, 2 fish 6 lb 15 oz 02 drm, Av. 0 lb 14 oz 00 drm. The Whitby Bass Club came 6th, 4 fish for 6 lb 15 oz 02 drm, Av. 0 lb 13 oz 06 drm.
In the WSAA results Ben Laws won his 3rd match in a row with 3 codlings for 5 lb. Ben is fishing exceptionally well at the moment and should have had a bigger bag of fish if it weren't for some bad luck with fish being snagged and one was lost in the surf when it was dumped on the beach in the swell and came unhooked.
Colin Stainthorpe had the Heaviest Fish 4 lb 05 oz and shared the winnings of £85 with Ben laws, £42.50 each.
Weed was a big problem for all, both heavy kelp stalks and fine purple weed grass hung off lines like washing on a washing line. Surging and the bright cloudless sunny day were other factors that lead to a poor overall weigh-in.

Whitby Sea Anglers Association teams results
Whitby entered two teams, teams members were entered into A or B as when they arrived and paid their £10 entry fee.
Although there are only 7 members in each of our teams we had to pay for eight (minimum @£3/angler or £24 for eight), and therefore their averages were calculated by dividing the total weight by eight. (If a team has more than eight then the average is calculated accordingly in accordance with The Bell Trophy rules).

Safety
Safety, always keep an eye on your surroundings and the oncoming tide, unfortunately this competing Cloughton angler got stranded on rocks in Scarborough North Bay near the Sea Life Centre, and had to be rescued by the RNLI.
