Whitby Sea Anglers Association - 8th January 2008.
Minutes for Committee Meeting 8th January 2008 at 7.30pm at The Ship Inn, Whitby.
1) Chairman’s Report – meeting opened by club Chairman Phil Mead who thanked everyone for their attendance.
2) Treasurers Report – Dave Perrett reported that Glenn had still not signed up at the bank to make him a signatory on the club cheques. Glenn apologised saying work commitments had stopped him getting into the bank. Glenn agreed to get in ASAP. Dave Perrett suggested made an estimation that the club would run at a loss for this year of roughly £100.
3) Secretaries Report – Glenn had nothing to report at this stage but said he had added some items to the agenda for later discussion.
4) Minutes From Last Meeting – minutes read out by Phil Mead and agreed to be a correct record of events at the last meeting.
5) Matters Arising From Minutes – Rob Allison raised the issue of the club rules discussed at the last committee meeting. Rob felt that without seeking the agreement of the full club membership a set of rules could not be brought in. Glenn reminded the committee that at present the club does not have any written rules whatsoever and this obviously leaves the club open to abuse. After much discussion it was agreed to call an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) the purpose of which is to draft a set of rules. Every club member will be invited to attend.
6) National Federation Of Sea Anglers – Yorkshire NFSA Chairman Mr. Gwyn Davies gave a to talk on the NFSA and why he felt it would be beneficial for the club to join. Glenn highlighted the fact that it would be in the clubs best interests to join as they would get 3rd party insurance for the club and its members. Glenn said this was most important as the Penn Sea League now requires that any club entering an event into the league must have 3rd party cover and without this cover the club would be unable to hold either of the 2 Opens next season. After much debate it was decided that Glenn should seek information on the Northern Federation and NFSA insurance packages and that a decision would be made at the next meeting on which insurance package the club wished to pursue.
7) Non Paying Members – Concern has been expressed that some of the clubs members are not letting committee members know that they wish to fish a match, they are not paying for matches in advance and are not returning to the weigh in if thy have failed to catch. This means Dave Perrett struggles to payout to the match winner and keep track on individuals subscriptions. The committee felt it was best to leave this issue to the EGM so that all members could have a say on a ruling.
8) Recreational Sea Angling Strategy. – The RSA strategy is currently out for public consultation and DEFRA wish to know out thoughts. The RSA Strategy includes issues which could impact on the clubs future. Such things as the introduction of a Sea Angling Licence, a bag limit for sea anglers and bait digging restrictions. The committee suggested the thoughts of the clubs anglers should be sought and sent to DEFRA.
9) Flamborough No Take Zone – Glenn highlighted an ongoing issue at Flamborough where the Government propose to close an area of coastline somewhere between Bempton and Flamborough to the public including anglers. The committee felt Glenn should put pen to paper and write a letter of support to Brid fishing club who are opposing the proposals.
10) Any Other Business / Open Forum – Paul Kilpatrick raised the issue of increasing match fees. This idea received little support although it was suggested the matter could be taken to the EGM.
