Whitby reel in trophy victory.
Sea angling by Paul Medd The inter-club Bell Trophy, which is fished between the boundaries Cobble landing, Filey and Argyle Gully, Hayburn Wyke, was the highlight of the weekend. With the conditions remaining more akin to those associated with the height of summer, anglers must have feared a very lean day in terms of fish potential. With 97 anglers representing their clubs, 17 fish were recorded at the weigh in. In first place were the big fish experts of Whitby. As a team they recorded three fish for a total weight of 10-10-0. When taking in to consideration their members who blanked, the average weight for the team was a modest 0-11-5. For their success Whitby had to thank Denis Thompson, who contributed an individual total weight of 9-1-12. Second came the team from Filey who managed only a single fish of 6-6-0. This gave them an average weight for the team 0-10-3. The angler solely responsible for their success was Frank Colling. Filey Boat recorded a solitary fish weighing 4-9-4 for third. This gave them an average 0-8-2. Fourth were Rock Anglers who managed a total of 4-15-12, averaging out at 0-7-15 for the team. Denis Thompson and Frank Colling, as most successful individuals on the day, claimed about £100 each. Re-typed from the press cutting below. PDH 11th December 2012. |
