Sunday saw the Whitby Sea Anglers Association hold their annual open match between 10am and 4pm. With flat calm seas and bright sunshine, conditions were poor for codling fishing. Eighty anglers fished and only 12 returned to the scales with fish.
In the senior section which was a cod only match the day belonged to Mick Chadwick of Scarborough who managed to land 5 codlings fora total weight of 8 lb 07 oz, earning him a cheque for £400.
In second place was Whitby angler Norman Brittain whose single fish of 4 lb 09 oz earnt him £200 plus an extra £50 for the Heaviest Fish super pool.
Philip France of Scarborough found 3 codlings weighing a total of 4 lb 01 1/2 oz and took the cheque of £125 for third place.
The Juniors competition was an any fish match with codling taking preference.
Dave Smith won this section and had an excellent day landing the biggest fish in both matches.
Dave's codling of 7 lb 11 oz earnt him a cheque for £50 and also takes the lead in the Juniors biggest fish for the season competition.
In second place was 6 yr old Chris McCarthy whose 1 lb 04 oz flounder won him a cheque for £30.
Christopher's older brother Dan McCarthy took 3rd place with a whiting weighing 1 lb 00 oz earning him a cheque for £20.
Total weigh-in 40 lb 04 oz - 20 fish.
