Sunday 19th January 2014. Match 29 of 49
Low water 11.48 hrs 1.4 metres.
Bell Trophy - The Annual Inter Club Tournament.
There was no WSAA night match on Sunday because WSAA had been invited to compete in the Annual Inter Club Tournament, known as The Bell Trophy. Invited by George Dunn, secretary of Scarborough Rock Anglers Society, eight local clubs were to be fishing from 10am to 2pm, weigh-in by 3pm at Scarborough Rock Anglers Social Club.
At 8.30 am 115 local anglers met up on Marine Drive Scarborough to register, after which there was a short reminder of the rules and fish sizes, by George Dunn before anglers departed to their chosen marks shortly after 9 am, with boundaries of Coble landing, Filey to Argyle Gully, Hayburn Wyke.
Whitby Sea Anglers Association entered two teams of ten anglers, entry was £3.00/angler into the Bell Trophy and a further £7 entry into Heaviest Fish & Heaviest Bag of Fish sweeps split 50/50 for the winning members.
Fishing conditions were good, with a 4 - 5 ft growing east north east swell, fished over low water, with plenty of colour in the water. The only down side was the low cloud cover, south easterly wind bringing persistent damp conditions, rain & heavy drizzle, temperature of 7 deg C & 997 mm Hg on the barometer made for some wind chill.
Scarborough Rock Anglers won the trophy back and 'Whitby A' came second, followed by Filey C, 'Whitby B', 4th, and the new Whitby Bass Club, competing for their first time came a respectful 6th out of eleven teams.
In the WSAA club match, man of the match was Neil Inglis with his first win of the season, 7 codlings for 10 lb 13 oz, received £70 for the Heaviest Bag of Fish. Mick Beedle, 3 codlings for 9 lb 09 oz, had the Heaviest Fish - 6 lb 02 oz, also received £70.
