Sea anglers rewarded after poor winter
Lord Downe, president of Whitby Sea Anglers Association, presented the prizes at the annual dinner at the Wilson Arms, Sneaton, on Friday. Fifty-six members and guests attended.
The former chairman, Mr Ron Wood, said that due to poor health he had resigned the chairmanship after 24 years and he introduced, Mr William Atkinson. Mr Anthony Barningham, secretary, reported that the winter angling had again been generally poor apart from early December when a good run of codling from the beach between Sandsend and Happy Valley. After Christmas sprats and trammel nets left few fish for shore anglers. Lord Downe presented prizes to: William Atkinson 80 lb 01½ oz, Ian Russell 58 lb 13 oz James Mortlock 36 lb 15 oz, Paul Kilpatrick 46 lb 01 oz, Gordon Stonehouse 37 lb 05 oz, David Perrett 35 lb 04½ oz, Maurice Herbert 25 lb 02½ oz, Junior James Kelly 16 lb 05 oz, Andrew Spilman 15 lb 11 oz, Heaviest cod W Atkinson 9 lb 09 oz. Mr Ron Wood was presented with an inscribed tankard by Mr William Atkinson for more than 25 years service to the club. Mrs Wood was presented with a plant by the treasurer, Mr Davis Johnson. After the meal and presentations there was a disco. |
