A topic of discussion prior to Bell Trophy registration - Latest Bass restrictions from the EU.

A conversation was recounted by an angler he'd recently had with a Fisheries Inspector - "it's not yet in English law and the 3 bag limit & 42 cms size is still in place for us recreational anglers".

So just before 11pm last night I emailed David McCandless, Chief Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Officer.

This morning his prompt reply was waiting for me, and yes we can still catch 3 bass per day.

David McCandless has promised to let me know as & when it comes into force.

PS I watched Country File last night & the BBC were also saying the Bass ban is now in force - it isn't.

Error on my part, on day and in report:-

Andrew Cass had HF in his bag, 4 lb 04 oz as well as having HBoFish, but he can't win both prize sweeps.

Therefore he wins HF (as this takes preference over HBoFish), and 2nd HBoFish wins HBoFish sweep, which was Rob Allison 4 lb 02 oz

See WSAA Rules at bottom of page re Bell Trophy - I had completely forgotten this, and our treasurer did not fish the match.

Sandsend early afternoon dog walk, 2 sandbars, constantly moving / changing

Sunday morning low water dog walk

Evening Friday 8th January 2016 - low water 21.10 hrs 1.4 metres

Brian Harland (ex WSAA member) & no stranger to big fish, acting as their gilly had taken his cousins Steven & Stewart Swales, and Perry Franklin (ex WSAA member) fishing.

Neither Steven, Stewart nor Perry had ever fished this particular mark Brian had chosen for the evenings fishing, and Brian told them where to cast.

Around 21.00 hrs Perry hooked this fish and Brian plucked it from between the rocks in the surf, and instantly knew it was a 20 lb'er.

All continued to fish until after midnight, returning to Brian's garage to check its weight on Brian's scales - 19 lb 12 oz

Next morning Perry had it weighed officially at Whitby Angling Supplies where 
Dan Bennett confirmed - 20 lb 00 oz
