Flooding tide & the Von Tromp in the fore ground, had to darken the images to (in my opinion) get the most out of the Aurora colours.
Started at 00.00.14 hrs, and lasted for 45 minutes and nothing else.

Think the second one needs editing, darken, then enhance the purple & green.

First attempt at capturing the northern lights.
We went to Runswick Bay, did a few test shots and nothing doing so left camera snapping away as a couple of planes flew overhead.  This series of 25 shots makes a small star trail.

Packed up & drove to Whitby (very poor phone signal in Runswick) so we could check any on-line updates and check the weather forecast.  Wasn't looking good and my colleague called it a night as he had a long drive back to Durham.
So I decided well I'm up and there was enough sky showing for a star trail, so went onto the cliffs south of Whitby.  Set the camera up, and left on continuous shooting and retired to the car.
Around 3 am, although very cloudy there was a light show dancing in the sky.

Once dawn had begun it was time for a change of scenery & Staithes for a sunrise.

Something about trees on their own, loved the colour of the 5 bar gate.

Bit of activity at Doves Nest mine head, owned by Sirius, and two views overlooking Ruswarp - Ruswarp church on the left.  River Esk and the Abbey on the right.

Trip up to Danby Beacon with Aussie for an afternoon walk, the weather was good in Whitby but soon turned, the colours of the heather in flower were spectacular.

Got seriously distracted & watched a Kestrel (I believe) hunting, for an hour or so in the hope it would feed on a dead rabbit on the road next to the lay by where I was parked.  A grouse popped up from the heather which was quite comical. 

Walking back from photographing the scarecrows at Ruswarp, spotted these colourful flowers on Mayfield Road.  I can understand why the butterflies were feasting on the nectar.  I used a 70-200mm, (hand held) stood about 2 metres from flowers.  The depth of field isn't great, but the colours make up for it.

The Ruswarp Gardeners (Soc) organised a scarecrow competition to raise funds for a new village notice board.  The glass doors had been ripped off in recent bad weather.
The four ladies who maintain the beautiful village greens are Kathy Frost, Mary Degazon (both pictured above), and Julie Harrison & Beryl Morley.  Judging had already taken place - Friday 21st Aug 2015.  The station porter was running late and missed the judging!!

Chris had taken Aussie for an evening walk last night,and he was 'spooked' by the 'station porter', so I was dispatched on assignment, and met up with Kathy & Mary.
