An early start but Aussie didn't mind, a rare chance to photograph the liberation of racing pigeons from Norwich. I had an idea in mind, but poorly maintained hinges (bent & requiring a drop of 3-in-1 oil), and elasticated release straps (1 missing altogether) meant not all the boxes in any single row opened at the same time.
But I was pleased with what I got f4 1/4000th sec
Many thanks to Mark & his assistant.

Straps all linked to the release lever, boxes all tied shut & 'sealed'
↑ doors tied shut & crimped with an ID seal
06.50 hrs Mark finishes off cutting the strings, then sets the white door toggles to open
Liberation
↑ Bottom row, 1st 2 boxes - rusty hinges & no strap meant pigeons were not released.
↑ 2nd row, more rusty hinges didn't allow door to fall cleanly open
↑ 3rd row opens cleanly, and all birds released together.
