Looking at the weather now, you would never have guessed

Sunshine & showers in the morning much brighter in the late afternoon. So a wee trip back into the woods to check up on the lesser spotted woodpeckers. The chick will fledge in the next day or two as it is getting more inquisitive as to what is 'outside'. And the smell is attracting plenty of flies, which the chick snaps up with relish.
Macro, venus fly trap.
Work in progress, so to speak, need more practice, as depth of field is very shallow. Stack of four images. Good job I leapt out of bed shortly after 3.30am for the sunrise with Aussie as it is now pouring with rain :-( Last nights' sunset Sunday afternoon walk with Chris, Egton to Grosmont,
along the old toll road, vivid colours all around, and a wet Aussie. Return visit to the lesser spotted woodpeckers with better glass taken @fl 800mm on a cropped sensor, so 800 X 1.6 = fl 1,280mm. Managed to photograph both the male (red head markings) & female. All in all got some 400 shots in a little over an hour. Back at the car....
Aussie & I spotted this mouse scurrying up the recently chipped road, had great difficulty focusing on the little one, as it was in a hurry until he saw us & did a U-turn. Owning a dog means lots of walks, but where to go to keep him interested & alert? A walk in the woods, with a camera, of course, lead to a life long wish to come true. Finding a lesser spotted woodpecker feeding chicks. I had to wait patiently, for an hour Chris noted & quoted, being eaten alive by midges to get these photographs. Worth the pain. Last night:-
The 'plan', was an early tea, and they an evening stroll for the sunset (should it happen) rather than vegetate in-front of the TV. So off we went to the East pier, for a play with the camera whilst Chris took Aussie for a swim, then join me. As I was setting up, 6ft tripod, camera bag on the ground, blatantly obvious as to my intentions, well the first two pictures speak for themselves. A family started to 'camp' in front of me. Kids kicked off their flip flops, dad produced 2 glasses, bottle of vodka, and orange pop from a Mary Poppins nee Co-Op carrier. Was he taking the piss? No, he genuinely thought he'd got there first, and I was looking the other way! Needless to say, his partner, when she caught up, took her drink, and shifted him out of the way 'saying he was there first'. Thank you. The sunset didn't happen, another evening maybe. Popped back to Staithes last night - disappointing Bee in the freshly opened rhododendron flowers Impressed with this crow using his claw to hold the fast food packaging down. Blackbird totally at ease
